Albert Shafer 85, of Stevensville passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Zion United Church of Christ, 9105 Third St., in Baroda with Pastor Christopher Noffke officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 13, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Elks rites at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Lions Club. Albert was born January 4, 1930 in Baroda, MI., to Warren & Clara (Hoge) Shafer. He graduated from Baroda High School in 1947. On April 22, 1950 he married Lenore Roloff in St. Joseph. Albert was the owner of The Welcome Inn in Stevensville and was also a volunteer firefighter for Lincoln Township Fire Department. Albert was a member of the Lakeshore Lions Club and the Elks Lodge.  He was on the 1947 Baroda Bulldogs State Championship Basketball Team. He also was on many state championship teams in the 50’s and 60’s for fast pitch softball. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, playing cards and making wine. He was also an avid Michigan State Fan.

Albert is survived by his children: Kathy (Wayne) Walden of St. Joseph, Gary (Debra) Shafer of St. Joseph, Albert “Bud” (Cheri) Shafer of Stevensville, Charles (Janet) Shafer of Raleigh, NC., Craig (Teri) Shafer of Goshen, IN., and Joseph (Karen) Shafer of Bangor; twenty grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers Don (Lorraine) Shafer and Jim (Genevieve) Shafer; sister Elaine Fowler; and brother-in-law Dale Troxell.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Marjorie Troxell and Frances Czirr, and brother-in-laws Ken Fowler and Sig Czirr.
