Alfred A. Geik, 95, formerly of St. Joseph, MI passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Wynwood of Portage.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M., Monday, June 9, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. with Pastor Brett Hartwig officiating. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, June 8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Alfred was born September 8, 1918 in Benton Harbor, MI to Samuel & Alvina (Hahn) Geik. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. On July 1, 1950 he wed Mildred Smith in Benton Harbor, MI. Alfred was a tool and die maker for various companies in the area, last of which was Whirlpool from where he retired.  He was also the owner and operator of Al’s Place at Round Lake for many years.  He was a member of the Disabled  American Veterans in Benton Harbor, Berrien County Sportsman Club, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, the local beekeepers and the Whirlpool retirees group. Alfred enjoyed music and dancing, was an avid gardener, fisherman and deer hunter, getting his last deer at the age of 88. His family meant much to him, especially his 2 grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Carol (Scott) Hartwig of Vicksburg, MI; grandchildren Brett (Carrie) Hartwig of Moorhead , MN, Rachel (Adam) Kasamis of Portage, MI; great grandchildren Megan, Sarah and Leena and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred on January 15, 1994, daughter Julia Geik at birth, siblings Elmer Geik, Evelyn Bayles, Marion Steinke and Eleanor Jewell, and his special friend, Ruth Ameling.
