Alfred Kelm


Alfred Kelm, 91, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the West Woods of Bridgman.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 671 McAllister Ave., Benton Harbor with Pastor Jeff Bolwerk officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Alfred was born on September 30, 1924, in Lodz, Poland to Johann and Philemina (Koss) Kelm. On April 20, 1946 he married Ruth Wenzel in Germany. Alfred worked for Bendix Corporation for many years and also owned Kelm Electrical and Construction. He was a member of the St. Joseph Kickers Club and served as club president. He was also a member of the Art Guild and Twin City Camera Club. In his spare time he enjoyed painting, traveling and bird watching.

Alfred is survived by his daughters, Ilona Zandarski and Anita (James) Kaylor; granddaughters, Kristine (Ralph) Lucius and Sarah Veine; great-grandchildren, Lauren Veine, Joshua Lucius, Dorian Lucius and Jaxon Miller and sister Alice Heiss. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Kelm and son-in-law Mark Zandarski.
