Auditions for the musical "Pippin" will be held on Saturday, June 3

Dowagiac, MI – May 15, 2017 — Auditions for the musical "Pippin" will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 12–2 p.m. at the Beckwith Theatre. Auditioners are asked to prepare a song (not from "Pippin") to showcase their vocal skills. Production Dates: August 11–13 & 18–20

Synopsis: In this multiple Tony award-winning musical (book by Roger O. Hirson, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) a mysterious performance troupe tells the story of Pippin, a young prince searching for the secret to true fulfillment in the glories of the battlefield, temptations of the flesh and intrigues of political power.

Character Breakdown (age ranges are flexible):

Leading Player
The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story. Excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.

Pippin
Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent.

Charlemagne (King Charles)
Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.

Lewis
Fastrada’s son and Charles’s stepson, Lewis is the perfect soldier, buff and brutish. Strong and not bright. Pippin’s half-brother and after Pippin, heir to the throne. Addicted to the physical, Lewis loves weight lifting, Lewis loves wrestling, but most of all, Lewis loves Lewis. Requires good physicality.

Fastrada
Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.

Berthe
Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.

Catherine
A widow and mother. She is beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance.

Theo
A small loveable boy, Theo is Catherine's son and becomes Pippin's friend.
