Berthold Fitz, 83 years old, passed away tragically on August 22, 2018.

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Oakridge Community Church, 776 Oakridge Dr., St. Joseph with Pastor Scott Reeve officiating. Friends may visit from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M., Saturday at the church. A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Lincoln Charter Township Cemetery in Stevensville. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Bert’s fix-it personality, make a donation to the restoration project of the Oakridge Community Church parking lot.  He was born on February 5, 1935, in Volynien, Poland to Adolf and Martha Fitz. He came to the United States in 1952 to Coloma, MI with his family. On November 21, 1959, he married Elfriede Hansch in Benton Harbor. Bert was employed at Jewel Food, retiring after 32 years in 1996, as a meat cutter. He was a member of Oakridge Community Church. Bert found joy in fixing up any project and was always willing to lend a hardworking hand. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, fishing and pets.

 Bert is survived by his wife, Elfriede; his children, Gerald (Kim) Fitz of Tarpon Springs, Florida; Brigitte (Dan) Baer of Naperville, IL; Barbara (John) Richard of Carmel, IN, plus six grandchildren, Dylan, Christel, Bria, Nathan, Hudson and Hope, two brothers Rudy Fitz and Hermann Fitz, one sister Elfriede Krebs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Erwin and William Fitz.
