Billy F. Wells, 80, passed away October 23, 2018

Billy F. Wells, 80 of Benton Harbor, MI passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at his home.

A celebration of life service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday, October 26, 2018 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Scott Saylor officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Billy was born December 24, 1937 to John Henry & Lula (Lester) Wells. He was raised in Lawrenceburg, TN and was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School. On October 25, 1957 he wed Edith “Cricket” Quertermaus in Benton Harbor. Billy was the owner of Bill’s Garage in Benton Harbor for 0ver 60 years where he served his community as an auto mechanic. He was a drummer for Charley Mott & the Jokers for over 50 years. Playing with band members; Charley Mott, Reshonda Wells, Eldon Mitchell, Denny Fast, Leon Hilton, Dennis Butler, Johnny Dodge, Clarence Mott, Polly Rankin, Bob Nelson, Billy Church, Walley Needhum, Ollie Goodrich and Thurman Wells. Billy and Charley Mott owned the Jokers Club for 17 years. During Billy’s time in the band he had the opportunity to play with many great entertainers and tour the country.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Edith “Cricket” Wells; daughter Reshonda Knoop of Benton Harbor; granddaughter Kiley Turney of Benton Harbor; brother Bobby (Glenda) Wells of Sanford, FL; many loving nieces and nephews and cherished friends Charley (Faye) Mott and Debbie (Wayne) Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Donald Wells.
