Carolyn Evans Dorgelo, passed away July 30

Carolyn Evans Dorgelo was born on July 17, 1933, in St. Joseph, MI, to the late Judge Fremont Evans, and the late St. Joseph Postmistress, Evelyn (Standing) Evans Morton.

Carolyn took her final voyage on July 30, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2018, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 1753 Union Ave., Benton Harbor, MI. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at the F.O.P. 96, 2665 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI..

Carolyn graduated from Eastern Michigan University, cum laude; with a master’s degree from Western Michigan University, cum laude. She received post graduate education from Michigan State University, Notre Dame, and Michigan Tech.

Carolyn was an elementary school science teacher in the Benton Harbor School District for 34 years. She was well known for her participation in the Science Olympiad. Carolyn was also active in Pro Musica, Lakeland Coral Society, Silver Beach Carousel, Krasl Art Center, Monday Musical, and Sarett Nature Center.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Michael Kline) Dorgelo of St. Joseph, MI, and Dianna (Alan) Zwirn, of Belle Harbor, NY; as well as her grandchildren, Amanda and Stephanie Zwirn, Morgan Kline, and Logan and Sydney Dorgelo.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey (Cathy) Dorgelo, and her sister Elizabeth Borysko.

Carolyn’s family would especially like to acknowledge the compassionate care given by the staff at Woodland Terrace, in Bridgman, during her residency.
