Celebration in the Cemetery

The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, St. Joseph, MI

Friday, November 2, 2018, 6:00pm

Celebration in the Cemetery? Yes – absolutely.  Join the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and The Heritage Museum & Cultural Center as they co-host a community cultural event Celebrando el Dia de los Muertos, Friday, November 2, 2018 at 6:00pm at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, 601 Main Street, St. Joseph, MI.

El Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday honoring and festively celebrating family members who have died.  Friday’s event will include a wide range of entertainment options including authentic Mexican cuisine, specialty beverages, live mariachi band music, “pop-up” markets, dancing, and raffle prizes.

Following the Mexican custom, an on-site “cemetery” will allow patrons to display photos of their loved ones who have passed. The event is family friendly with entertainment options for children that include crafts, face painting, and a screening of Coco.

Tickets are $40 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Cash bar. Tickets are available online at smso.org, or by calling the SMSO at 269-982-4030 or The Heritage Museum at 269-983-1191.

A limited number of raffle tickets are being sold for $50 each. Prizes offered include a week stay in Cabo San Lucas, an authentic Mexican dinner for ten, a Whirlpool product, and a Family Night Fun Pack.

The Symphony and Heritage Museum & Cultural Center are only able to provide these events with support from our community.  While that support takes many forms, we are particularly grateful to our sponsors for this event: Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Meryle Merritt in Memory of Lawrence Merritt, and the John Devries Insurance Agency.

For more information, please contact the SMSO office at 269-982-4030 or the Heritage Center at 269-983-1191.
