Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Char was born May 17, 1939 in St. Joseph to Albert and Marie (Kaasman) Birr. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1956 and was married to David Evans on November 10, 1962 in Baroda.  She worked with her husband for the family business Evans Agricultural in Berrien Springs (through which she made many lifelong friends) and later was an Administrative Assistant with Whirlpool Corporation until her retirement after 30+ years of service in 2009.

She enjoyed quilting with her sister Crystal, was a fan of NASCAR, rooted for Michigan State, and liked singing in the church choir. However, all those activities paled in comparison to time with her family. She loved family gatherings, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren the most.

Char is survived by her husband David; children Terry (Barb) Hosbein of St. Joseph, Lori Reed of Baroda, Scott (Jenny) Evans of Stevensville, Kim (Greg) Christopher of Cordova, MD, and Brent (Courtney) Evans of Berrien Springs; grandchildren Justin (Kendra) Nalepa, Jordan Hosbein, Bradley and Brandon Reed, Kasey (Chris) Moyer. Shelby Evans, Paisley Cameron-Evans, Nick and Ashlyn Christopher, Ashley Pompey, Bryce Evans, and Cody Pompey; great-grandchildren Jason, Charlee, Camden and Kaylee; sisters Esther Charleston of Stevensville and Crystal Norton of Holland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marian Tober.
