David was born on December 20, 1945, to Howard & Myrle (Pryor) Sundblad in Escanaba, MI.  David and his family moved to Benton Harbor when David was nine years old.  He was a member of the Benton Harbor Tigers Class of 1964.  David served his country on the USS Roosevelt in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  On October 14, 1978, David married Mary Sandera at the Stevensville United Methodist Church.  Together they have one son, David Joseph Sundblad, Jr. David’s first-born son is James David Sundblad.

David was employed by several area manufacturing firms, most notably Bendix Corporation, Benton Harbor Screw Company, and Heath-Zenith.  Throughout his early years, David enjoyed being on many bowling teams. He was an avid supporter for any team his sons were on and, of course, for any of the Benton Harbor Tiger teams.  He loved listening to his “oldie” music.  David was a proud member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church and Stevensville American Legion Post #568.

For the past five years, David stayed in assisted living. One year at Sunset Shores (before their closing) and four years at The Willows.  David’s family wishes to thank the caregivers throughout the years for the outstanding care he has received; these women & men are angels on earth.  David’s family wants them to know that all of the great care, compassion, & love was always noticed and very much appreciated by our family.

David is survived by his wife Mary; children, David (Amaris) Sundblad of Stevensville and James Sundblad of South Haven; grandchildren, Morgan, Mariah & Joshua Sundblad; siblings, Larry (Sharon) Sundblad, Melissa (Bob) Hinz, and Marie (Doc) Hirn; numerous nieces & nephews; and great-nieces & great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
