David Poschke, 72, passed away on February 18, 2019

David Poschke, 72, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 in his home surrounded by family.

David was born on March 9, 1946, in St. Joseph, to George and Eleanor (Gross) Poschke. As a child, David grew up in St. Joseph on Silver Beach. He always enjoyed sharing stories of his time on the beach when there was a roller coaster. He spent a lot of time down there with his friends and siblings. On January 23, 1968, David married the love of his life, Bonnie Watson, in St. Joseph.

David proudly served our country in the United States Army for two years in the Tank Unit. After the Army, David, his father George and brother, Lynn owned a construction business where they built many houses throughout Southwest Michigan. Many of which his parents lived in for years. He was a very intelligent man that knew how to fix anything in the house or vehicle. David was a giving man, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and was often called upon by family and friends for his expert advice.

Beginning in his teenager years and throughout his life, David was intrigued by speed and loved cars, motorcycles or any mechanical machine that would go fast; he had a true passion for racing. David drag raced in his early years, and worked on cars with his sons and dear lifetime friend, David Rhinefield. Much of his free time was spent doing what he loves, spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, or a nice joy ride. His favorite idea of a weekend was heading up north to his trailer, that he shared with his son, David. He loved to get away and relax. David’s idea of a relaxing weekend up north would be trail riding jeeps, dune buggies, motorcycles and snowmobiles. The night would end with dinner and a campfire surrounded by family and friends.

David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Bonnie; children, Bobbi (Bill) Genovese, Steven (Teresa) Poschke, and David (Therasa) Poschke; brother, Lynn (Sherry) Poschke; sister, Janis (Eugene) Wohler; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Alexander, Tyler, Kyle, and Alicia; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Wyatt, and Elijah and furry friend, Buster.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 11 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
