The family would like to thank the staff of Woodland Terrace and Caring Circle for their compassion, care and love during this very difficult time.

Don was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Chicago, to Nancy and Roy Johnson. He married Vonda Lou Bicanich on Feb. 24, 1951, in Chicago. They spent 69 loving years together as constant companions, enjoying life and raising their family. He was a very devoted Dad and Papa. What brought him the most joy was spending time with his family. Whether it was cheering on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the bleachers at sporting events, concert venues, academic ceremonies or holiday gatherings with everyone in attendance, just being together gave him the biggest smile! Don greeted everyone with a hug and smile. He was fondly referred to as ”Papa Don” from all who knew him. He enjoyed helping others and could fix anything!

He served his country with pride in the Korean War with the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of working for Burroughs Corporation as a field service representative. He belonged to the American Legion Post 362 of Coloma and the Berrien County Woodworkers Guild.

Don is survived by his children, Donald Johnson of Wayne, Mich., and Susan (Larry) Weeks of St. Joseph; grandchildren: Chad (Katie) Weeks, Krystle (Greg) Winnell, Michael (Noor) Johnson and Kimberly Michelle Johnson; great-grandchildren, Zofia Weeks and Taylor and Austin Winnell; brother, Roy (Laura) Johnson; sister, Nancy Kase; sister-in-law, Betty Bicanich; and several nieces and nephews.
