Doris Mae Lockwitz

Doris Mae Lockwitz, 87, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 after an extended illness at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 West John Beers Road, Stevensville, MI with Pastor Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph, MI. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Doris was born February 27, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Attorney Harold and Dorothy (Johnson) Wallace. She moved to Sawyer, MI in 1941. She graduated from New Troy High School in 1946. She attended Twin Cities Business College and graduated in 1947. Doris worked for Fidelity Insurance Company after graduation until 1951. She was the beloved wife of Arthur Lockwitz and they were married on April 17, 1948. They were married for 68 wonderful years. Doris worked as secretary of Trinity Lutheran School in St. Joseph until 1984 when her husband Arthur retired from Whirlpool Corporation. She was a cub scout den mother and room mother while their their three sons attended Trinity Lutheran School. Doris enjoyed singing in the Trinity Lutheran Senior Choir and was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville, where she was confirmed and married. She was a member of the Al Penrose Schuh Plattlers Verein Dance Group and was a founding member of the Concordia College Ladies Guild.

Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Arthur. She was the loving mother of three sons; Dan (Sara) Lockwitz of Granger, IN, Keith (Regina) Lockwitz of Ringgold, GA, and Todd (Tina) Lockwitz of Lake Orion, MI. Doris was the devoted grandmother of Adam (Joanna) Lockwitz, Janelle Edmundson and Frank, Carmela and Cooper Lockwitz and great grandmother of Phillip Edmundson. She was sister-in-law of Myron (Arlene) Lockwitz and the late Edgar (Vera) Lockwitz, Margaret (Walter) Heyn and John (Beverly) Lockwitz. Doris was aunt of Carol (Ken) Mellon, Edgar (Linda) Lockwitz, Bruce (Nancy) Lockwitz, Diana (Tony) Eaton, Myron Heyn, the late Walter Heyn, Jr., Harold Heyn, the late Joanne Heyn, John (Kathy) Lockwitz III, David (Belinda) Lockwitz and Mark (Kimberly) Lockwitz. She was preceded in death by her parents.
