Eleanor Splese

 

 

Eleanor Splese, 91, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.

A Celebration of Life Eternal Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Court & Market Sts., St. Joseph with Rev. Michael Roth officiating.  Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.  Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Eleanor was born August 11, 1923 in St. Joseph to Frederick & Bertha (Alisch) Fechner.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1941.  On January 24, 1942, she married Amil Splese in St. Joseph.  Eleanor was employed at William’s Bros. Box Factory in St. Joseph, Sears Roebuck in Benton Harbor, and retired from FP Rosback in St. Joseph in 1989 after thirty years of employment.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and served on the funeral luncheon committee.  She was also a member and past officer of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the group from the Class of 1941.  Eleanor enjoyed sketching and in her younger years had aspirations of being a clothing designer as the hundreds of sketches of clothing attest to.  She also enjoyed sewing & crocheting.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter Linda Hazell of Portage; two granddaughters-Debra (Chris) Brock of Fort Mill, SC, Erin (Mark) Hampshire of Portage, MI; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.  Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Amil on November 3, 1981, her son David Splese onApril 20, 2011, by sisters-Martha Brado & Ruth Patzer, and by brothers-Gustav & Ervin “Bud” Fechner.
