Emilie Bermingham, 98, of St Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Caretel Inns.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Jerry Levi officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Emilie will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph next to her husband James. Emilie was born on June 28, 1920 in Trevor, Wisconsin. Her parents, Henry and Dora Kempf had previously immigrated from Stahl, Russia. In the 1920’s the family moved to Southwestern Michigan. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1939. In 1940, she married James (Jim) Bermingham who passed away in 1988. For 35 years she became a true Florence Nightingale in caring for a multitude of patients at Carson’s Convalescent Home in Benton Harbor, MI. From a career standpoint, the caring of others became her sacred ministry. Emilie was a dedicated member of the Fairplain Seventh- day-Adventist Church.

Emilie is survived by her two sons, James (Jan) Bermingham of Three Rivers, MI and Kent (Jeannie) Bermingham of Powell, OH. Also mourning her loss are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant granddaughter, Kelly Bermingham; her precious grandson James (J.D.) Bermingham and her 10 brothers and sisters.
