Fatal Vehicle Crash

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at approximately 7:15 AM the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office along with several area police agencies responded to an unknown injury crash on I-94 near the 33 mile marker in Benton Charter Township.  The crash involved a semi-truck car hauler that lost two of its tires and one of the tires struck an MDOT worker that was working along the side of the highway.  The victim was transported to Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph were he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 
The crash remains under investigation at this time.  This is a tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim. 
VICTIM: Kevin White, 48 years old from Benton Township.  He was employed by MDOT and also served as the Township Supervisor for Benton Charter Township.   
VEHICLE: 2007 Mack Truck owned by SLT Logistics out of Alto Michigan.  The driver was a 29 year old male out of Wyoming Michigan.  The driver remained on scene is cooperating with the investigation.   Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be a contributing factors in this tragic incident. 
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.   A copy of this report will be forwarding to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office for  review once completed.
