Floyd Wambaugh

Floyd Wambaugh, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, May 19, 2015 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:00 P.M., on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastors Richard Hennig and Jeff Bolwerk officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital of Michigan Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Hospice at Home, or St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Floyd was born November 26, 1923 in St. Joseph, MI to Floyd & Minnie (Beselt) Wambaugh. He grew up as a “sand rabbit” living on Lions Park Drive in St. Joseph. Floyd served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate. On June 8, 1946 he married Ruth Brownell in St. Joseph they enjoyed 68 years of marriage together. Floyd worked for AEP for 40 years starting out as a lineman and retiring as a storeroom supervisor. He was a member of St. Matthews Church and ushered there from many years. In his spare time he enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family at White Cloud State Park. He bowled on the Twin Cities Bowling League for many years. He also enjoyed sweet treats which included going for coffee and donuts with his friends. Floyd kept a very neat garage and was an avid collector of newspapers for paper drives.

Floyd is survived by his daughter and son Susan and Larry Engler of St. Joseph; granddaughter, Emily Engler of Mishawaka, and sister Sharon Whitmore of Flagstaff, AZ.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Wambaugh, sister Kathryn “Katie” Mutz and grandson, Stephen Milnikel.
