Human Foosball Heats Up the Action this Saturday at Ice Time

DOWAGIAC – Everything is better when it’s life size, from the ice sculptures that will line Front Street this Saturday to Human Foosball that will be played on Commercial Street.

Kris Soenen, chairman of the 24th annual Dowagiac Ice Time Festival, said she is excited to bring this new action event to the festival Feb. 1.

Hosted by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, Ice Time has been underwritten by Clark Chapel / Starks Family Funeral Home, Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union, Dowsett Chiropractic Health Center, Lyons Industries, SEMCO and Who Knew Consignment.

“Frosty Foosball is on, with open play on Commercial Street from 10 to 1 p.m., followed by tournament action from 1 to 3 p.m.,” Soenen said.

For the tournament there will be limited availability with eight slots  for teams of six with a cost of $30 per team. Each game will be 15 minutes long and played bracket style, with the winning team advancing.

“Teams are competing for the glory and gift cards to local dining establishments,” Soenen said. Advanced sign up is required. Visit and use the contact page to enter the team's name, captain's name and contact cell number. Participants may pay the team registration fee of $30 through the Chamber’s PayPal, or stop in at Who Knew Consignment at 119 S Front Street to register.

Ice carving gets underway by 8 a.m. Saturday, as single-block sculptures are created along Front Street. Festival highlights also feature the Chili Crawl, Lil Chippers Outside Game Area, the Frozen Fish Toss Open Competition, the Hot Spot featuring a bonfire & S’mores and Sled Dog Meet & Greet.

Select specialty shops will hold winter clearance sales, with in-store  events being held at Caruso’s Candy Kitchen, Dowagiac Area History  Museum, Dowagiac District Library, 1st Source Bank, Front Street  Crossing and Who Knew? Consignment.
