James “Jim” Baity

James ‘Jim’ Baity, 86, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away on Fri., Sept. 4, 2015 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. 

Jim was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 16, 1928 to Wilbur and Helen (Tracy) Baity. He served his country during the Korean War while in the U.S. Navy. On June 26, 1954 in South Bend, IN he married his now wife of over 61 years Barbara Lee DeMuth. Jim worked for I & M Electric both in South Bend and St. Joseph, for several decades as a master mechanic, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion Post; a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville, where he drove the church school bus for years; he was a world traveler; was a past member of the Civitan Club; he was a master of all projects ; but most of all he was a family man, he loved his three girls (wife and daughters). 

Jim is survived by his wife – Barbara; two daughters – Cynthia (James) Darr of Stevensville and Ginger (Kevin) Kunst of St. Joseph; two grandsons – Brandon and Eric Darr; and two sisters – Dolores Kime and Patricia (Robert) McGinnis of LaPorte, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents – Wilbur and Helen Baity, sister – Joanne Samardak, and brother – Raymond Baity. 

A Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday, Sept. 7, 11:30am, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church-4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, MI, with Pastor Martin Measel officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, IN on Tuesday. Visitation is Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00 P.M.
