Jane Ethel Granzow Miles, age 85, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017

Jane Ethel Granzow Miles, age 85, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017. She was born on August 28, 1931 in St. Joseph, MI to Catherine (Manley) Granzow and John Granzow.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly and is survived by her sons, Bruce (Kim) Miles and Ronald (Lynn) Miles, and grandson, Lane.  She was a resident of the Burcham Hills Retirement Community in East Lansing, MI at the time of her passing.  

Jane was born and raised in St. Joseph and spent her younger years working at her family’s resort (Manley Resort) located on the St. Joseph River. She earned a BA and MA in Elementary Education from Michigan State University.  Jane was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a lifelong Spartan supporter.  She taught elementary school in Connecticut and Wisconsin, with the majority of her teaching career spent with the Lansing School District.  In 1985, she returned to her family home in St. Joseph where she enjoyed an active retirement consisting of extensive travel, community involvement, and pursuing her passion for genealogy.  She had a deep appreciation for history and was involved with the Southwestern Michigan Genealogical Association, the Heritage Museum, and the local Questers chapter.  One of her favorite pastimes was that of rug hooking.  She was a master of this unique folk art form and was a founding member of the Lakeshore Rug Hookers.  

 A memorial service will be held on Friday June 23, at 10:30AM at Starks and Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Dr. Chuck Guerreno officiating. Her family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Burcham Hills Retirement Community for the outstanding care that Jane received during her years as a resident.
