Jeanne F. Bicknell, 89, formerly of St. Joseph passed away on May 23, 2017 in Holland, Michigan following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 26 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road in St. Joseph, Michigan, with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Great Lakes Chapter or Hospice of Holland. Jeanne was born April 11, 1928 in Port Huron, MI, the daughter of Thomas J. and Eleanor (Patton) Labadie. She was graduated from Port Huron High School in 1946, Port Huron Junior College in 1948 and Michigan State University, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology in 1951. She held several positions of responsibility as a bacteriologist in Saint Joseph and Niles. She married James Bicknell of St. Joseph in 1955, lived for many years at Diamond Lake near Cassopolis, MI and had two children, John Bicknell of Ypsilanti, MI and Patricia (Bicknell) Bradley also of Ypsilanti. At age 41, she returned to college for a full year and received her Teaching Certificate from Western Michigan University in 1973. For many years Mrs. Bicknell then taught full time in elementary grades in the Cassopolis, MI school system, having retired in 1988 as a very popular Kindergarten teacher. In retirement, she and her husband did extensive travelling in the US and abroad. Along with her husband, Mrs Bicknell returned to St. Joe in 1999 to the city in which they were married in 1955. After 13 years in St. Joe, health circumstances required a move to Freedom Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Holland, MI.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2015, and is survived by a son, John; a daughter, Patricia Bradley; a niece, Teresa Taylor of Westminster, CO; and four nephews, Scott Bicknell of Greeley, CO, Thomas Bicknell of Broomfield, CO; David Bicknell of Westminster, CO; and Robert Bicknell of Toutle, WA.
