Judith Bleich, 78, passed away May 28, 2019

Judith Bleich, 78, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at her home.

Judi was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Noni) and aunt who was loved by all. Her family was everything to her. She was born in Lima, Ohio, and attended The Ohio State University from 1960-64. There, she met and married Donald Bleich. Judi was an elementary school teacher for several years before she and Don had their first daughter, Tracy. They moved to St. Joseph in 1969 where she had her second daughter, Amy. She focused on raising her daughters for several years before pursuing her Master’s in Guidance and Counseling in 1975. She worked as a probation officer at the Berrien County Courthouse for over 10 years. She then pursued her Master’s in Social Work from Western Michigan University and completed this degree in 1988. She then worked as a counselor /psychotherapist in various settings including Madison Center, Riverwood, and then her own private practice, Counseling Resources. She loved helping give people the tools to empower themselves and improve their lives. She had many faithful clients who appreciated her warmth, guidance and great sense of humor. While she loved her work, nothing meant more to her than her family. She adored her husband, daughters and 5 grandchildren beyond measure. She took pleasure in cooking special meals, buying favorite toys and planning regular family gatherings and trips that led to a lifetime of cherished memories.

For many years, their place on Paw Paw Lake was a gathering spot for family and friends where many special summer weekends were enjoyed. She was always there for her family and friends who loved her ability to listen, care, and “tell it like it is” with her fantastic sense of humor. She was often seen out with the love of her life, Don, at many local restaurants where they would visit with and say hello to their many friends. She was a favorite among the team members of the family owned businesses the Holiday Inn Express and Lakehouse Restaurant and Bar.

She is survived by her loving husband, Don Bleich, her adoring daughters Tracy (Brian) Portnoy of Chicago and Amy Heugel of St. Joseph and her grandchildren Evan and Alex Heugel, and Ben, Zach, and Sarah Portnoy. She is also survived by one brother and many nieces and nephews.
