Katherine “Kay” Hawn, 92, passed away December 10, 2018

Katherine “Kay” Hawn, 92, of Eau Claire passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at her home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Tom Bird officiating. Kay will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery privately with her family. Friends may visit Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Kay was born on July 31, 1926 in Benton Harbor, MI to Sebastian & Sadie (Zwengler) Abel. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School in 1945. Kay worked in retail for many years, but lastly retired as the stock room manager from Kmart. A position she held for 25 years. In her spare time Kay was an avid reader, enjoyed completing puzzles, crossword puzzles and embroidery work. Kay enjoyed gardening, this is something she was skilled and knowledgeable about and in retirement she worked at Crystal Springs Florist and Central Packaging part time. She was a true Michigan historian and loved sharing what she knew with others. Kay will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children Jim (Dianne) Hawn of Rochester, MN, Tery Hawn of Portage, Kathy (Paul) Blake of Paw Paw, Chris Hawn of Eau Claire and Rhonda Fryer of St. Joseph; eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth (Don) Hettig of Sodus and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving partner of 32 years Ron Stibbins, son-in-law Willie Fryer and brothers, Joe, Sam, Louie, John, Jack, Frank and Herb.
