Lisette Benson, 92, passed away January 16, 2019

Lisette Benson, 92, of Benton Harbor, passed away, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. David Colp officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Lisette was born August 19, 1926 in Antwerp, Belgium to Theodorus & Jacoba (Bakx) Lamot. She and her family assisted with the underground system that aided American Soldiers. She met her future husband, James W. Benson, while he was serving his country in Europe during WWII in the US Army. On May 25, 1946, they were married in Antwerp, Belgium. They settled in settled in St. Joseph and made their home. In 1954, the family moved to Benton Heights. Lisette was employed for twenty-plus years at Brown’s Pharmacy in Benton Heights. She was a member of the First Church of God-Benton Heights Campus where she served in various capacities. She and her husband were instrumental with the blending of Benton Heights Church of God with First Church of God. Lisette served as the President for the Martindale School District PTA and operated the concessions for the Benton Heights Athletic Association. Lisette cherished the time spent with her family and in her free time enjoyed knitting.

Lisette is survived by her children-Elaine (Jack) Blakeman of Berrien Springs, Jim (Debbie) Benson of Eau Claire, Janet (Rick) Nimtz of Sister Lakes; eight grandchildren-Chris, Kerri, Ben, Jennifer, Cory, Brandi, Jeremy & Kelli; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James on November 19, 2013 and siblings-Rosa Lamot, Maria Lamot & Frans Lamot.
