Melvin Karnowsky, 82, passed away on January 7, 2019

Melvin Karnowsky, 82, passed away on January 7, 2019, at Spectrum Lakeland Health in St Joseph.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Road, St Joseph, MI.

Melvin was a lifetime resident of Benton Harbor & St. Joseph. Prior to his retirement, he worked with his brothers, Herman and Sam at United Auto Sales. He was a long-time member of Temple B’nai Shalom.

Melvin was kind, gentle, caring and had a love of knowledge and life. He knew people everywhere he went… always greeting them with his warm smile. He enjoyed talking about current events, politics, food and loved telling a good joke or two! His family meant the world to him. Quite often being seen in local restaurants with at least one family member and possibly more. Besides his family, he was loved and cared for by two special friends who brought so much sunshine and brightness into his life during his illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents Celia and Abe Karnowsky, brothers Sam and Herman Karnowsky, sister in law Dolores Karnowsky, brother in law Jack Martin, niece Abby Karnowsky Melnick. Melvin is survived by his sister, Ilene Martin, nephews Abe and Steve Martin, niece Debby (Barry) Karnowsky Glick, four great-nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of their choice.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Temple Beth-el Memorial Park. Services were conducted by Starks and Menchinger, www.starks-menchinger.com.
