Mrs. Virginia Ora (Floyd) Withrow, aged 71, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, passed away on May 3, 2017. Virginia was born April 23, 1946 in Berrien Springs, Michigan, the daughter of Alford L. and Lottie O. Floyd.

Gin, or Ginny as she was often called, graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1965. While in school, she participated in drama club as a costumer and was the second runner up to Miss Berrien Springs.

She met the love of her life, Larry A. Withrow while they were both working at Clark Equipment.

They were married on May 6, 1967 and were happy together for 50 years.

They had their first of three children in 1969.

As they lived their married life, it became apparent that she was the only person who could be the boss of her husband Larry, and so, she wisely decided to start Withrow Excavating and Construction and "hire" him to run it for her.

Several decades later she sold the business to their son and started pursuing her lifelong goal of being a retired Grandma (or Beema as she was known to her grandkids) with a house on a lake in South Carolina.

From canning tomatoes and child rearing, to zoning issues and starting a business, Virginia was the kind and loving go-to person for anyone who knew her.

She was the founder and CEO of her family business, and a well-respected authority in her career in zoning administration at both Benton Charter Township and the City of St. Joseph.

But beyond knowing how to do practically everything, she was also quietly known for her service to others.

She created food baskets for the needy during the holidays, wrote grants to help low income families improve their homes, and made contributions to many nonprofits including Salvation Army, Twin City Players, Harbor Habitat for Humanity and Children's Music Workshop.

She was loving, kind and wonderful. Every person who had the good fortune to know her was made better for it.

Virginia is survived by her husband Larry Withrow, her three children; Carole (Adam) Clark, John (Karri) Withrow, and Susan (David) Matheny.

She had two grandchildren; Hannah Bluschke and Isabella Clark and one great grandchild; Cecil VanAntwerp.

She is also survived by her brothers, Alford Leo (Sharon) Floyd, John (Connie) Floyd, and Cecil (Rexanna) Floyd, as well as dozens of beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alford L. and Lottie O. Floyd, and her sister Ivy (Floyd) Bailey.

Cremation has taken place.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 3 pm on Thursday, August 10 at Duffield and Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma, followed by a 5pm memorial service.
