Mildred “Millie” Marie Hanners

Mildred “Millie” Marie Hanners, 81, of St. Joseph, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at Hanson Hospice Center on Sunday, September 6, 2015 surrounded by her entire loving family.

Millie was born March 13, 1934 in Senath, Missouri to Louis P. and Maud (Morgan) Cortson. On September 7, 1951 in South Bend, IN, Millie married Marvin L. Hanners. Millie worked through the years at VM Corp, Imperial Printing, and Hilltop Foods. Millie was an outstanding cook. She loved to study scripture, reading through the Bible 44 times. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Millie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin; daughter, Patricia (Don) Gruntman of St. Joseph; son, Ronald (Char) Hanners of St. Joseph; four grandchildren, Lori (Andy) Thompson, Angela Hanners, Donald Gruntman, Jr., and Kellie Moore (Jamie Zehm); three great-grandchildren, Anna Thompson, Charlie Williams, and Austyn Gruntman; her sisters, Wanda Kirkendall, and Margaret Rodgers; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Millie is preceded in death by her parents, Louis P. and Maud Cortson; sisters, Maude Sneed, Delcie Jenkins, infant Joyce Bernice, Clara Remaly; brothers, Louis H. Cortson, Dean Cortson, and infant Samuel Daniel Cortson; grandson-in-law, Michael Moore; and her great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Gruntman.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. David Colp officiating.  Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
