Patricia D. Phelan, 92, passed away on November 19, 2018

Patricia D. Phelan, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, November 19, 2018 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland, St. Joseph.  She was born on July 16, 1926 in St. Joseph the daughter of John J. and Dorothy (Loftus) Fagan.

Mom is survived by her sons Patrick (Christine), Donald, Jr., Christopher (Linda) and her daughter Colleen Phelan Villa; 11 grandchildren: Marty (Juli), Jeff and Greg Phelan, Jennifer (Kevin) Landino and Kaitlyn Phelan, Josh, Alex (Brandis) and Dustin (Molli Carpenter) Phelan, Paul, Elizabeth and Matthew Villa.  Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren: Lindsay, Delaney, Noella, Avery, Drew, Matt, Rachel, Cora, Parker, Taylor, Hanna and Willow.

Mom was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Lynn Phelan, her sister Rose Roberts, her brother William Carmichael, her former husband Donald R. Phelan and her parents.

Patricia graduated at age 17 from St. Joseph Catholic High School and moved to New York City where she worked until the end of WWII.   She was employed at Whirlpool corporation and enjoyed several successful business endeavors including day care center ownership, partnership in electrical and construction companies and licensed Realtor.

Mom’s proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished and cared for over the years.

Mom had a lively sense of humor and a passion for helping people.  She volunteered with Hospice at Home and was a key organizer for adventures for her friends and herself later in life.  She was a superb storyteller, captivating her grandchildren as she told and retold countless tales.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Liturgical Prayers recited at 6:45 P.M.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m, Saturday, November 24, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., with Father Robert Creagan officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
