Personal Injury Accident

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: February 12, 2018 at 14:55hrs.  


TYPE OF INCIDENT:  Personal Injury Accident.                             


LOCATION OF INCIDENT:  St. Joseph Valley Parkway near Sodus Parkway in the Township of Sodus.

#2: Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.

#3: Sodus Township Fire Department.

#4: Medic 1 Ambulance Service.



On February 12, 2018 at 14:55hrs, personnel from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a personal injury accident on the Saint Joseph Valley Parkway near the Sodus Parkway.

The investigation into this personal injury accident revealed that a 1999 semi hauling a load of steel I-beams and being operated by a 54 year old male from Monticello, IN was traveling north-bound on the Saint Joseph Valley Parkway, when the semi drifted off to the side of the roadway striking an unoccupied 2006 Chrysler, which was parked on the side of the roadway. The semi than traveled back into the traffic lanes, where it struck a 1999 Ford pick-up truck, being operated by a 30 year old male from Coloma, MI.

During these collisions the semi, lost the load of I-beams that it was hauling.


The Sodus Township Fire Department and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division responded to the scene to assist with traffic control and to assist with the investigation.


The initial investigation reveals that the operator of the semi may have suffered a minor medical condition, which may have played a part into the cause of the collision.

The driver of the semi was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph by Medic 1 Ambulance Service for treatment.

The driver of the 1999 Pick-up truck did not sustain any injuries that required immediate medical attention.


All three vehicles involved in the collisions were towed from the scene, as all three vehicles sustained moderate damage.


The Saint Joseph Valley Parkway had to be shut down for a short period of time, while the damaged vehicles were removed and all traffic was rerouted from the Saint Joseph Valley Parkway onto Sodus Parkway.


The investigation into the cause of this collision is still on-going.
