Rabon “Ray” Simcox, 79, passed away Friday, December 1

Rabon “Ray” Simcox, 79, of South Haven, MI passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Mark Manning officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the funeral home or from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Michigan Operation Injured Solders http://www.injuredsoldiers.org/.  Ray was born August 29, 1938 in Rinnie, TN to Henry & Viller (Key) Simcox. On November 29, 1957, he married Helen Shaffer in Ringgold, GA. Ray worked as a Tree Trimmer for Townsend Tree Service for 40 years. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, taking care of his lawn, gardening, raising cows and chickens, and eating chocolate covered cherries. He also loved his train set and enjoyed making wooden trains for his grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW Post 1137 Men’s Auxiliary and attended The First Missionary Baptist church in Coloma.

 Ray is survived by his wife Helen Simcox; children John Simcox, Barbara (Charles) Clapsaddle, James Simcox, Linda (Bret) Bartlett and Nathan Simcox; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother Edward (Doris) Simcox, many nieces and nephews, and his dog Bear who went with him everywhere. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Barney Simcox, Douglas Simcox, Ella Dee Crabtree, Talmadge Simcox, Maddie Agnes Simcox, and Eula Ceola Rich.
