Richard L. O’Connor, 72, passed away on Monday, August 13

Richard L. O’Connor, 72, of Baroda, passed away at his home surround by his loving family, on Monday, August 13, 2018.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 1PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Mother Karen Joy Kelly officiating. Military Rites will be provided by Stevensville American Legion Post 568. Burial will be held at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 5PM until 7PM, at the funeral home. Richard was born on April 26, 1946, to Thomas & Evelyn (Hendrix) O’Connor in St. Joseph. He graduated from Lakeshore High School. On June 4, 1977, he married Shawn Beurkens in Grand Rapids. Richard owned and operated Baroda Motors where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Richard enjoyed race cars, dune buggy racing and gardening. Most of all, Richard loved to spend his time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shawn O’Connor of Baroda; children, Richard P. O’Connor of Harbert, Adam O’Connor of Three Oaks, Robert (Allison) O’Connor of Baroda and Shanon (Frank) Carbajal of Berrien Springs; Kristine Koronka of Johannesburg, MI; fourteen grandchildren Hanna, Margret, Grace, Ethan, Evan, Emma, Sydney, Becca, Sebastian, Zack, Adamina, Scarlett, Allysa, Abby; two great greatgrandsons Maddaex, Zander;  sibling Linda Zick of St. Joseph, aunt Sonja; nieces Kim(Dave), Deb; sister-in-law, Elaine.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Evelyn O’Connor; brother Robert O’Connor; and brother-in-law Terry Zick.
