Ross M. Spencer

Ross M. Spencer, 70 of Manistee, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away March 26, 2015 after a short battle against Pancreatic Cancer.

Ross was born April 3, 1944 to Roger and Mildred (Hall) Spencer. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1962, and earned 2 Associates Degrees from Lake Michigan College.

Ross had a great life, surrounded by great people, incredible love, and unforgettable experiences. He was a police officer in Benton Harbor, Coloma, and a Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to Lincoln Township. He was a corporate pilot for Zenith Company, an Assistant Airport Manager at Ross Field, and finally a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial Advisors for about 25 years. When retirement approached, he sold his practice and became a short-term employee with Dana Wales’ Ameriprise Private Wealth Management practice.

After moving North, he volunteered with a group that maintains the North Country Trail through Lake and Manistee Counties. He was appointed Chairman of the City of Manistee Municipal Marina Board and the Manistee Blacker Airport Authority. He did the things he loved and while he could no longer sail or fly, he was happy being right there in the thick of things pertaining to boating and flying.

Ross leaves behind, his wife, Lisa (Roberts) Spencer, brothers Jim (Maudie) Spencer of Huron, OH, and Jon (Virginia) Spencer of Stevensville, MI; in-laws Lavern (Stanley) Twyman of Granite Bay, CA, Lorie Vogie of Harrisburg, PA, Julie (Rob) Sanders of Coloma, MI, Joyle (Jay) Woulfe of St. Joseph, Dana (Dan) Smith of KY, Deanna Twyman of Napa, CA and Clyde Twyman of NV and his four-legged boys, Eustace, and PorkChop.
