R.S.V.P. within the city of St. Joseph!

R.S.V.P. within the city of St. Joseph!

The city of St. Joseph has had a Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol program (RSVP) since the year 2000.  This program provides services to all the residents and visitors of the city of St. Joseph.  This non-confrontational part of the St. Joseph Deptment of Public Safety can be seen patrolling the city in a RSVP patrol car.  One of our duties is to provide home checks for residents who are on vacation or gone for extended periods of time.  As a visible public relations arm of the city, our duties include answering questions for visitors while on patrol and helping with downtown festivals, fireworks, and parades.  RSVP patrols the city streets, parks, beaches, schools, hospital and other municipal buildings within the city.  Other duties include informing residents of possible ordiance or code violations, while on the lookout for anything officers need to be alerted to.

The goal is to be a positive, friendly & helpful representitive of the City of St. Joseph, as we aid our officers in any daily duties asked of us.  Members are required to have a valid Michigan driver’s license, be age 55 or older, and a citizen of the U.S.  New members have to meet the department’s qualifications, and complete a background check.  Members work in pairs 3-4 hours a week and attend a monthly meeting.  Uniform shirts and coats are provided, except for black dress pants.  RSVP is open to both men and women, and there is no requirement to live within the city of St. Joseph.

If you are looking for something that doesn’t require a lot of time and your participation is greatly appreciated- this is something to look into!          To apply for an RSVP position, contact Laurie Moore, at the personnel department, in city hall @ 700 Broad St.  983-0443.   or leave a message on the RSVP voice mail:   985-0320.
