Sandra “Sandy” Marie (Monte) Zilke, 75, passed away on Monday, July 16

Sandra “Sandy” Marie (Monte) Zilke, 75, of Stevensville passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018, at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Lakeland Health in Stevensville, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandy was born June 5, 1943, in Benton Harbor, to John & Evelyn (Rutz) Monte.  Sandy graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1961.  She was a former parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.  She worked in Administrative Assistant positions at various jobs:  Saranac’s, Farmer & Merchants National Bank, Berrien County Court House – Child Support Dept.  And St. Joseph Veterinary Hospital.

Sandy was known for her sassy spirit and infectious laugh. She kept her positive outlook despite her long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and Dementia.  She loved her sisters, children, and grandchildren.  She enjoyed drawing, painting, ceramics, stained glass art, and music.

Sandy is survived by her two sisters, Lee (Red) Price of Cary, NC and Shirley Folkert of Mishawaka, IN; daughter Scherri (Nap) Ramirez of Stevensville; two sons, John (Sue) Zilke of Stevensville and Jeff (Lianne) Zilke of Niles; seven grandchildren, Caitlyn and Jacob Ramirez, Amanda, Josh, and Emily Zilke, Lily and Gracie Zilke.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, John & Evelyn Monte and sister Eleanor Hewitt-Tillman.

A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 2PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Father Robert Creagan officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 12PM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Sandy’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – The Michigan Chapter, Susan G Komen Foundation, and Caring Circle – Hospice St. Joseph.
