Shirley J. Geisler, 88 passed away peacefully Friday Sept. 26 2014 at home in Stevensville, MI.  She was born on February 9th, 1926, to William and Minnie (Siewert) Ott.  After graduating as Salutatorian from Stevensville High School in 1943, “Ootie” married Lester R. Geisler on February 13, 1945.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph on Friday October 3rd, 2014 at 10AM. Burial will be held at Hickory Bluff Cemetery Stevensville.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St Paul’s Lutheran Tuition Assistance Program or the Music Department at Michigan Lutheran High School.  Those wishing to share a memory of Shirley online may do so at

Shirley’s love of learning and music inspired her to go back to college and earn her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Andrews University in 1979. She was employed as a substitute teacher in many Berrien County school systems for 12 years until her retirement in 1991.   She also taught organ and piano from her home for nearly 60 years.  Shirley is survived by her three children Nancy (Roger) Rice of Toledo, OH, Betsy Senecal of Traverse City, MI, Lon (Tammy) Geisler of Stevensville, MI, and daughter-in-law Sharon Geisler Ott of St. Joseph, MI. Shirley was the loving and much loved grandmother of eight grandchildren:  Mari (Mark) Berger, Randy (Amy) Rice, Meggan (Jeff) McMurtrie, Stephanie Geisler, Trent (Alicia) Geisler, Phil Geisler, Chris Geisler and Renae Geisler. She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Nicholas, Lake, Sydney, Isaac, Creek, Isabel, Aliana and Ella. Also left to mourn are her sister in law Lorraine Bednar Ott, four nephews, one niece and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Margaret Ann Siewert Schaus and a brother, William R.”Bill”Ott and a son, Terry F. Geisler.  Shirley was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Stevensville.

Shirley’s grandchildren and great grand children were the absolute joy in her life. Her faith in her Lord was an example to all.  To her, creating a legacy was not a burden, it was her joy and satisfaction in living each day.
