Steve C. Kubash

Steve C. Kubash, 88, of Stevensville, passed away with his family at his side, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Pine Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stevensville.

Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Deacon Mike Gallagher officiating. Private family burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville.  Friends may visit beginning at 9:00 A.M. Steve was born March 10, 1926 in Chicago to Stefan & Anna (Zahorak) Kubash.  He graduated high school in Chicago and soon after moved to the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph Area when he gained employment with Whirlpool Corp. in 1948.  Steve retired in 1984 as Service Manager for Consumer Affairs.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph & Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa, a life member of St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Elks Lodge #541.  Steve was a very kind-hearted man, always willing to help & never complain.  He enjoyed retirement golfing, traveling & wintering in Mesa with his first wife-Gertrude Cockrell Kubash, until her passing in 1994.  On December 9, 2000, he married Joyce Bennet in Mesa, Arizona, and they enjoyed the time shared together between Stevensville, Mesa & Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Steve is survived by his wife Joyce Bennet-Kubash; his son-Michael (Pat) Cockrell of Stevensville; three grandchildren-Lisa Anne (Mark) Slade of St. Joseph, Michael (Katy) Cockrell of Kalamazoo, Steven (Heather) Edwards of Brechin, Scotland; six great-grandchildren-Ashley, Ryan, Courtney, Lucy, Georgia & Nathaniel; his brother Ed Kubash & his sister Eleanor (Ray) Frye, both of Stevensville.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Gertrude Cockrell Kubash in 1994.
