Tom Donovan Holt, 72, passed away at his home Sunday evening, September 24, due to cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the BH/SJ Elks Lodge, 601 Riverview Dr., Benton Harbor. The open house will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017.  Family & friends are all invited. Tom was born on July 9, 1945, in Benton Harbor, MI, to Arthur and Louise (Hale) Holt. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1963.  On July 16, 1966, Tom married his childhood sweetheart Shirley Ward, in Benton Harbor.  They were blessed with 51 years together.

Tom would lose himself in a Clive Cussler novel every evening. He would also whip out a crossword puzzle and start on the next one.  His smoked ribs were known as the best in town by many people.  However, his real passion was shooting trap, skeet and 5-stand sporting clays with a host of his best friends at the Berrien County Sportsman Club.   Tom was the range safety officer for a number of years and volunteered for events whenever needed.  Tom was also an active member at the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph Elks Lodge, where he was honored to offer his services toward the Veteran’s and adult Special Needs events.

Tom is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters Michelle (Shawn) Carter, New Paris, IN, Abby (Don Harrison) Holt, Martin, MI: grandsons, Alex (Carly) Diaz, Seminole, FL, Nigel (Sheriee) Morford, Gr. Rapids, MI., Dakota Harrison, Martin, MI, and brothers Tim (Darlene) Holt, Watervliet, MI, and Dan (Jane) Holt, Largo, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael.
