Vern B. Newboles, 93, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 2

Vern B. Newboles, 93, of St. Joseph, Michigan, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 2, 2018 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland.

Private burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville, IN.  Memorials in Vern’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan or Meals on Wheels.  Those wishing to sign Vern’s Memory Book online may do so at

Vern was born February 18, 1925 in Evansville.  He graduated from Millersburg High School, Class of 1942 and entered the US Marine Corp., serving during WWII in the South Pacific and Nagasaki, Japan.  On March 1, 1946, he married the “girl who knocked his socks off” the former Opal Scheible in Evansville.  Vern worked during the day and put himself through night school and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Evansville College.  Vern spent his working career as a pharmaceutical rep. for Pfizer, retiring after 30 plus years.  Vern moved to St. Joseph following the death of his wife on February 1, 2011, to be closer to his son and daughter-in-law.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed flower gardening, and enjoyed watching basketball-especially Indiana University, and spending time with his family.

Vern is survived by his son Randy (Deborah) Newboles of St. Joseph; and two feline companions-Tigger & Abby.  In addition to his wife Opal, he was preceded in death by his sister Betty.
