Virginia “Ginger” Martin


 

Virginia “Ginger” Martin, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Norm Crawford officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Virginia was born May 27, 1921 to Albert, Sr. and Josephine (Stello) Romeo in Benton Harbor. On July 6, 1948 she married Charles Martin, Jr. in Elkhart, IN. Virginia was owner and operator of Blue Bird Tavern in Benton Harbor; a family business begun by her parents in the 1930’s, and run by Virginia from the 1970’s until 1983. She attended both Calvary Bible Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville. She enjoyed reading the bible, witnessing her faith to others and she was a great prayer warrior. Virginia was a wonderful mother, and loved providing meals for her family. She was a caring and giving friend, always putting other’s needs before her own.

Virginia is survived by her son, Timothy Martin and his wife Sally of New Haven, IN; daughter, with whom she shared a special mother-daughter friendship, Patricia Martin and her husband Aaron Russell of Eau Clare; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Albert Romeo, Jr. of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Charles; brothers, George and Richard Romeo and her sister Marie Crawford.
