Virginia “Jean” Varney

Virginia “Jean” Varney, 85, of Stevensville, MI passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at her home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Deacon Michael Gallagher officiating. Burial to follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from  5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the funeral home. Jean was born May 17, 1929 in St. Joseph, MI to Reinhold “Ryan” & Mary (Smith) Leck. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1947. On November 8, 1958 she wed Richard Varney in St. Joseph, MI. Jean kept a busy schedule caring for her home and her family. She worked part time at Dale’s Doughnuts, as well at Lakeshore Public Schools assisting in the lunchroom and on the playground. Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Beth Varney of Stevensville, Tina (Ray) Runge of Middlebury, IN and Penny (Jeff) Callard of Fenton, MI; grandchildren Jordan, Joshua (Haylie), Jeremy, Abigail and Victoria; sister Vivian Smith of Benton Harbor and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Richard Varney on June 23, 1993 and sisters Margaret Kubash and Evelyn Kaatz.
