William “Bill” Marquardt, 97, passed away November 21, 2018

Beloved father and grandfather, William “Bill” Marquardt, 97 of St. Joseph passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Portland, Maine.

A celebration of Life Service will be 11:30 AM Saturday December 1, 2018 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dennis Marquardt and Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memorial Gardens in Coloma. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 30, at the funeral home. Mr. Marquardt was born on February 14,1921 in Germany to Gottfried and Bertha (Rosin) Marquardt. He immigrated to the United States at the age of two. During WW II, he enlisted in the United States Navy and is a veteran of that war, having served on a destroyer. On January 27,1945 he married Esther Elizabeth Lesch in Benton Harbor. Throughout his adult life Bill served faithfully as church treasurer, board member, and usher of First Assembly of God (The Blue Roof Church). He was a superintendent/foreman at Auto Specialties for 45 years. He enjoyed Michigan Football, playing cards, golfing, fishing on the St. Joe pier, and get-togethers with family and friends. He was an avid supporter of his children’s education and artistic pursuits.
Mr. Marquardt is survived by his son Rev. Dennis (Bevie Jo) Marquardt of Portland Maine, daughter Dr. Linda (Dr. Norm) Mintle of Forest, Virginia, daughter-in-law Wanda Rothwell, 9 grandchildren: Christopher Rothwell, Patrick Rothwell, Michelle Graff, Ryan Rothwell, Justin Rothwell, Christel King, Jeremy Marquardt, Matthew and Kaitlyn Mintle.

Mr. Marquardt was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Marquardt, son Captain Gary Marquardt, siblings; Albert Marquardt, Alma Maxwell, Martha Hirsch, Ruth Fischer and Leonard Marquardt.
