William W. “Bill” Rice

William W. “Bill” Rice, 82, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Hanson Hospice in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:30 A.M. Thursday, December 3, at Crystal Springs Church of God, 1465 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Bill Bridgman & Rev. Harvey Deam officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Cremation will follow the service with private burial at a later date.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until 11:30 Thursday at the Church.  Memorials may be made to Crystal Springs Church of God.  Those wishing to sign Bill’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Bill was born January 12, 1933 in Benton Harbor to Harry & Ruth (Kovalska) Rice.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1950.  Bill served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War.  On February 18, 1956, he married the former Barbara Carpp in St. Joseph.  Bill was employed for six years with the St. Joseph Police Department before gaining employment with the Berrien County Road Commission, retiring as weigh master in 1996 after twenty-one years.  He was a former member of First Church of God in St. Joseph, where he served as an usher & Sunday School teacher.  He was currently a member of Crystal Springs Church of God.  Bill was a patient man & a generous man with his time & talents, always willing to help in any way possible.  He was a man of great faith in his Lord & Savior Jesus.  Bill enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time with his family.  He especially enjoyed the guy’s camping trips to Northern Michigan.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill is survived by his wife Barb; children-Leah Rice of Benton Harbor, Clint (Christina) Rice of Stevensville, Wes (Chris) Rice of Spring lake, MI, Sam Rice of Muskegon, MI; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;  siblings-Patricia Tillman of Stevensville, Kathy (Bruce) Fuller of Washington State, Donald (Sharon) Rice of Stevensville, Ronald Rice of Baroda; and numerous nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Rice.
