Personal Injury Traffic Crash

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: Monday August 31, 2020 at 11:57a.m. 
TYPE OF INCIDENT: Personal Injury Traffic Crash      
LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Carmody Rd. County Line Rd. Township of Watervliet.

NARRATIVE:  On August 31, 2020, at 11:57hrs, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and other first responding agencies were dispatched to the intersection of Carmody Rd/County Line Rd. in the Township of Watervliet for a two vehicle personal injury traffic crash.  
The investigation revealed that a 2005 Ford van, which was being operated by a 65 year old male, from the Hartford area, was traveling southbound on County Line Rd. and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Carmody Rd.  This van than struck a 2007 Peterbilt semi-tractor/trailer, which was being operated by a 65 year old male from Zeeland, MI, and traveling west bound on Carmody Rd. 
The driver of the semi-tractor/trailer was not injured.  The driver of the Ford van sustained non-life threatening potential paralyzing injuries, and he was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Watervliet by Pride Car Ambulance and later flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo by helicopter for further treatment of his injuries.  
The driver of the Ford Van had to be extricated from the vehicle at the scene of the crash by personnel of the Watervliet Fire Department.  First Responders from Keeler Township also assisted at the scene by providing medical assistance to the injured individual.  
Alcohol, Drugs, and speed do not appear to be a factor in this crash.  The investigation is currently on-going and the traffic crash is being reconstructed by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
