City of Benton Harbor Launches "Beautify Benton Harbor" Blight Reduction Initiative

City of Benton Harbor Launches "Beautify Benton Harbor" Blight Reduction Initiative
Beginning March 31, 2025, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety’s Code Compliance Division will launch Beautify Benton Harbor, a citywide initiative to reduce blight and improve residents' quality of life.
From March 31st to September 30th, code compliance officers will conduct property inspections across all four city wards to identify and address ordinance violations. Property owners found to violate the city code of ordinances will be notified via mail and pink door tags and provided with a timeline for compliance. Our goal is to obtain compliance; only as a last resort will citations be issued.
The Beautify Benton Harbor program will address vacant buildings, overgrown lots, structural issues, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, and other concerns affecting the city's appearance and safety. This program also aims to identify vacant buildings along with their safety and requires owners to register their vacant properties.
The Beautify Benton Harbor initiative will contribute to a healthier, safer, and more vibrant community by reducing blight and improving property conditions. Cleaner neighborhoods enhance property values and promote a sense of pride and well-being among residents. This effort is crucial in revitalizing Benton Harbor and ensuring a better quality of life for all who live and work here.
Residents are encouraged to report blight concerns by calling 269-927-8418. The City of Benton Harbor and the Department of Public Safety will share updates on the program on their Facebook pages.
Together, we can make Benton Harbor a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful place to live!
