Anne Therese McQuillan, 83, passed away peacefully at Hanson Hospice Center on Thursday, August 2, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at 10:30AM at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 East Delaware Ave., Benton Harbor, with Father Robert Creagan officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from 4PM until 7PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. A prayer service will be recited at 6:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Michigan Catholic Schools or Birthright of St. Joseph. Anne was born on September 25, 1934, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Douglas and Lenore  Davidson. She was raised in Chicago, where she graduated from St. Gregory High School.  She continued her education in Chicago at Mundelein College, where she earned a BA degree in Education in 1956. Following graduation, Anne taught in the Chicago Public School System. On August 2, 1958, Anne married Attorney James Brennan McQuillan at Our Lady of Victory Church in Chicago and moved to St. Joseph where they raised their family. Anne joined Jim in heaven on what would have been their 60th wedding anniversary.

Anne was an active participant in the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor community. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, served on the Lake Michigan Catholic School Board and was President of the Board from 1981-1982. Anne also supported the Readiness Center and Birthright. A member of Berrien Hills Country Club, Anne was an active member of the women’s 18-hole golf league for years, where she met many friends who shared her love for golf. She had an avid passion for bird watching, traveling, gardening, reading and music.  Most of all, Anne loved to spend her time with her children, grandchildren and dear friends.

Anne is survived by her children, Douglas (Christine) McQuillan of Benton Harbor, Helen (Gerard) Distefano of Herndon, VA, Dr. Daniel (Charlene) McQuillan of Rockford, IL, Mary McQuillan of Nashville, TN and John (Carolyn) McQuillan of Lansing, MI.  She had 13 beloved grandchildren – – Megan (Brent), Brendan, Kathlyn, Bridget, Jim, Mary Helen, Eileen, Katelyn, Anne, Maura, Alaina, Kate and Elise.  Anne is also survived by her siblings, Douglas (Ellen) Davidson of Chicago, IL and Lenore Garvey of Glenview, IL; sister-in-law Barb Collins of Alsip, IL; brother-in-law Richard Carpenter (Sharon), of Sun City West, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Lenore Davidson; husband, James McQuillan; siblings, Don Davidson and Jean Carpenter; and brother-in-law Ed Garvey.

Anne’s family would like to thank the staff at Caretel Inns of Lakeland and Ardath Poole, her special caregiver, for all of the love and support they extended to Anne over the past two years.
