"Cabin Fever" Strikes Berrien County Campground

A welcome type of fever has been identified in north Berrien County – “Cabin Fever,” that is. As owners and managing partners, Mark and Karla Lemoine, prepare for their fifth opening day on April 16, at the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday, they are excited to announce the momentum at their campground continues with their biggest reinvestment to-date.

As they meet the growing demand of consumers seeking an outdoor recreational experience, they are building on a long list of accomplishments in their prolific pursuit of excellence.  When they bought their 47-year old campground in 2016, it included 10 rustic cabins, and two deluxe cabins. In 2019, they pioneered glamorous camping in Southwest Michigan with the addition of three luxury “Glamping Tents.”  Now in 2021, they are adding to the portfolio of accommodations with an addition of five more deluxe cabins, which will now offer guests up to 20 accommodations to choose from.

“In the wake of all the government restrictions that dominated our lives the past year in response to the pandemic, millions of Americans just wanted to get outside and actively sought to continue, renew or begin their camping adventures,” said Mark.  “Camping is the quintessential outdoor activity, and guests came because they found it to be safer, more affordable, and easier to social-distance.”

Deluxe cabins provide guests with air-conditioned/heated spaces with full kitchens and bathrooms, in addition to other high-end amenities such as cable TV, Weber gas grills, outdoor patio furniture and an enhanced fire experience.  Specifically, the new deluxe cabins that will be added to the Lemoine’s park includes a four-person studio, three six-person cabins that feature two bedrooms with a half-bath in the Master bedroom, and a six-person unit that is handicap friendly.

Karla stated, “In addition to serving guests who enjoy camping on our tent or recreational vehicle sites, we hear from people all the time who tell us they typically stay in hotels, but after seeing our available glamping tents or cabins, they say, ‘Oh yeah, I can do this!’.”

The four-person deluxe cabin studio will be available for guests in late-June.  The other four deluxe cabins will be added following the construction of necessary infrastructure improvements.  A groundbreaking ceremony has been planned for April 15, 2021, at 10:00am in coordination with the Coloma/Watervliet Chamber of Commerce and the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber.
