Donald L. Wendling Obituary

Donald L. Wendling, 91, of St. Joseph, Michigan, formerly of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Anthony Fields officiating. Private Burial will take place at a later date at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, OH. Memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to Habitat for Humanity. Don was born December 7, 1930 in Mentor, OH to Leroy & Elva (Judd) Wendling. He graduated from Mentor High School, class of 1948. Don served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army, and then in the Army National Guard and Army Corp. of Engineers. On August 16, 1958 he married the former Patricia Carney in Willoughby, OH. Don was employed for forty years as an accountant for Occidental Chemical in Dallas, TX, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he volunteered for twenty years with Habitat for Humanity. Don was a member of the First Disciples of Christ Church in Bloomington where he sang in the choir and served in various capacities. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his wood shop. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Don is survived by his children-Richard (Ellen) Wendling of Waynesboro, PA, Edith (Gregory) Luckett of St. Joseph, MI, Dennis (Jonathan Norman) Wendling of Streetsboro, OH; seven grandchildren-John, Angela, Daniel, Stacey, Samuel, Benjamin & Joey; ten great-grandchildren-Valarie Shannan, Chloe, Devin, Autumn, Kodi, Jacob, Oliver, Felix, Zeina & Sullivan; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on October 4, 2008, and by three sisters-Doris Williams, Alice Sweeney & Marilyn Miltner.
