Gary was born September 11, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio. He had worked for Four Winds Casinos helping install the electric in New Buffalo before becoming a groundskeeper. He also worked for his son Bert Wilbur for many years. He loved the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, going to as many events as he could including camping for the Pow Wows every year. He loved the outdoors with his whole heart by camping, fishing, or just sitting outside. He enjoyed throwing darts, playing cards, going on road trips, but first and foremost Gary loved his family more than anything. He also loved his football whether it was Friday, Saturday, or Sunday Night Lights along with watching movies with his grandson David or the fights on TV with his wife Sylvia. Being in the presence of family and friends was special to him, especially being able to be around and play with David and his precious dog Bear. He also loved watching his boy, Noah and his girl, Zoe play, wrestle, laugh and everything about them. Gary always made sure to go to the games and concerts of his grandkids. He always wanted to make you laugh, even if he had to tell a crazy tale to do so. He loved going to the movies and drive in for James and David. He loved his wife Sylvia so much. They were the classic match and perfect couple, staying true to their vows, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. They celebrated 31 years of marriage and 36 years together. Sylvia passed away April 29, 2022.
Gary is survived by his sons; David Heisel, James Wilbur, Tom Sturgeon, Bert Wilbur, Scott Lee, a daughter Sara Wilbur, daughter-in-law Candace Cummings, brothers; Richard Hill, Jim Hill, Brett Hendrix, and sisters; Kathy Hale and Sharon Lane; and his nephew Xavier Rodriguez. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and special friends, Angel Vasquez, Matt Schelling, Tony Andujar, Skeeter Dillenbeck, Alfredo Rosas, and Chris Robinson.
