Gene M. Robinson Obituary

Gene M. Robinson of St. Joseph died May, 26th due to complications from cancer, he was 88. Gene died in his home and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann, his son David of Grand Rapids, daughter, Linda of Sodus and one sister, Connie (Robinson) McKinley of Lansing.

Gene was born July 28, 1932 in Mears, MI to Floyd and June Robinson as the 6th of 8 children. He graduated from Hart High School in 1950 with 13 Varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. He received a scholarship to Michigan State University where he studied horticulture. Upon graduation, Gene began his 40-year career with the Michigan department of Agriculture as a pesticide specialist. In 1957 he married Mary Ann and they raised their family in St. Joe.

Genes love of sports led him to a long part time career as a high school official in football, basketball and swimming.

The Robinson family loved to travel the U.S and visited many state and national parks. Gene was also an avid golfer and very active in the St. Joe Township Lions Club, Elks Club and the local Boy Scout troop. He also volunteered for the MSU Alumni Association and many service projects for the First United Methodist Church of St. Joe, of which Gene and Mary Ann have been faithful members for over 60 years.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 1:00PM, at the First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Friends may visit with family on Monday, May 31, 2021, from 2-4PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Township Lion’s Club or First United Methodist Church.
