McKinley J. “Mack” ,“Ken” Sliter, loving dad and grandfather walked into Hallelujah Square to be with his Lord and Savior on June 23, 2014.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Doug Hoyh officiating. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit Thursday, June 26 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Ken was born October 24, 1927 in Bliss, AR to Jesse Ollie & Dora Blanche (Sterling) Sliter. On September 15, 1945 he wed Lela Irene Tipton and they had 3 children. He operated a brake lining machine at Auto Specialties for many years. Upon Irene’s passing he wed Amy Louis Hicks on October 6, 1979. Ken was a member of the union workers, woodmen of the world and of Blueroof Church. He enjoyed fishing and wild animals and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He loved watching Tigers games with his granddaughter Amber.
He is survived by his son Keith Sliter of Benton Harbor; daughter Trina Sliter of Rosebud, AR; step children Ken (Debbie) Hicks of Atlanta, GA, Linda (Tom) Reidsma of Atlanta, GA and Brenda (Joe) Schalon of Benton Harbor; granddaughter Amber Sliter and grandson Sean Rogers; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters Bonnie Payne of St. Joseph, and Ann Treat of Palantine, IL; brother Byron Sliter of Sparks, NV and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irene on July 22, 1976, wife Amy Hicks on July 31, 2012, daughter Sharon Sliter on September 13, 1963; step son James “Sandy” Hicks; siblings Clarence Skaggs, Blanche Lawson, Nettie Westbrook, Betty Postelli, Lela Ridenour, Florence Sliter, Vernell Sliter, Ruth Sliter and a baby brother at birth.
